Today marks the 45th anniversary of THE DEVIL IN MISS ONES (1973) opening in XXX theaters. With its plot lifted from French philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre's play 'NO EXIT' (and its name a riff on the 'THE DEVIL AND MISS JONES' screwball comedy from 1941), the film's arthouse feel features one of xxx's still most downbeat openings ever with a depressed woman committing suicide in her bathtub by slitting her wrists(!) With an ironic tragicomic ending, it was followed by 8 sequels -- the last of which was in 2010, and with original star Georgina Spelvin returning only 2 more times in the series. Also in 2010, she appeared in Massive Attack's x-rated video of 'Paradise Circus' sung by Hope Sandoval of Mazzy Star. The video is spliced with interview clips of then 73yr old Spelvin discussing sexuality & her time on the film, and explicit scenes.
