Today marks the 50th anniversary of TEENAGE DEVIATE (1976) opening in XXX theaters. Annie Sprinkle (whose film title is a nickname by her Mom) plays runaway Ella who has relocated to scummy New York to move in with her buxom cousin Audrey. She speaks to a psychiatrist (whom we never see except for pipe smoke) describing her depraved experiences as we are introduced to her sexual journey in flashbacks. She takes on some rather immature mannersisms of a bubbly young girl (cutesy smiling faces, and childish body language which gets a little annoying) but there is no mistake in her "adult nature" as we see her giving a backyard blowjob, getting spanked, being semi-raped by Audrey's boyfriend (only to be accused of then trying to steal him away), involved in a lesbo threesome, getting into a fight, demonstrating one of her famous golden showers (of which she unfortunately remains out of frame thus cheating we viewers), and then culminating in going out on a date with a disco dude who dumps her. Even as TD is Annie's first role making the jump into straight-on perverse grindhouse, this gritty film is quite substandard and while she can deliver long speeches to the offscreen shrink, the acting is poor and the male cast is terribly dull as dishwater. Still, it's worth a look to see where it all started for her.
