Having spread out from straight breakneck hardcore into post-punk, this opera-themed concept double album (all about a young runaway boy and his life's path searching for belonging) also introduced more melodic guitar, piano interludes, patches of psychedelica and some acoustic folk. ZA shares parallels with THE WHO's 'Quadrophenia', is one of the first records considered vital in the formation of indie alterno-rock, and both positively & negatively helped to bring major label attention to the underground. Happy 35th Anniversary.
