Now regarded as a cult classic, the movie was initially blasted by the United States Catholic Conference for its sordid & sleazy, seedy subject matter of nudity, profanity, and presented view of Christianity. It was further nominated by 'The Stinkers Bad Movie Awards' (a group similar to the 'Razzies' which celebrate honoring terrible movies) for worst film, worst lead actor, and worst supporting actress.
